Hello world.

I've been a fan of Plone for a couple of years now, so I finally decided to drink the kool-aid, eat the dogfood, and start using Plone for my personal site.

It took a while, but I've finally got things working to my satisfaction, more or less.

The original plan was to use Quills or SimpleBlog to handle the weblog stuff, but neither of those products left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. I'll suppress the gory details of that experience for now and write an objective review at a later time, after I've had a chance to test them on a fresh Plone install.

In the end, I opted for the Zen way, using stock News items for weblog entries and a modified template on the front page to make it look more 'bloggy'. There are also a few tweaks here and there to make things a bit more friendly for visitor comments (original recipe here). That seems to be a fairly common use case - maybe I ought to package those tweaks up as a skin product and release it?

Anyway - we're rockin' and rollin' here now. Time to write a breakup letter to my old site.
